Nashville's vibrant sports scene is about to get a major new addition. The city has officially been awarded an expansion franchise in the UpShot League, a groundbreaking new women's professional basketball league designed as a direct developmental pathway to the WNBA.

This is huge news for basketball fans and the city's athletic culture. The UpShot League, announced in January 2025, will feature players on two-way contracts, offering them a crucial platform to hone their skills and earn a call-up to the WNBA. While the league's inaugural 2026 season will tip off with four teams—the Charlotte Crown, Greensboro Groove, Jacksonville Waves, and Savannah Steel—Nashville, along with Baltimore, will join the action in 2027.

Led by President and CEO Nancy VanReece, a former Metro Council member, the franchise is moving quickly. The team's name and branding will be unveiled in July 2026, with coaches hired by January 2027.
