When you think of dominant pitchers in college softball, Kenzie Brown's name belongs right near the top of the list. The Arizona State senior ace has been nothing short of electric this season, and she's a huge reason why the Sun Devils are heading into the NCAA tournament with serious momentum.
Arizona State has a rich softball tradition—four national championships and 10 Women's College World Series appearances since 1999. This year, under head coach Megan Bartlett, the Sun Devils added another milestone: their first-ever conference tournament championship. They did it in dramatic fashion, knocking off NiJaree Canady and a top-five Texas Tech team in the Big 12 title game on May 9. Now, with a 41-16 record, they're set to face McNeese in the College Station Regional on Friday, May 15, hoping to extend their season and chase a WCWS berth.
Standing in the circle for Arizona State is Kenzie Brown, and she's been the driving force behind their success. The senior has capped off an exceptional college career on a high note, earning first-team All-Big 12 honors and being named MVP of the conference tournament. If the Sun Devils make a deep postseason run, they'll likely have Brown to thank for it.
Brown has been one of the nation's best pitchers for two straight seasons. In 2025, she was an NFCA first-team All-American and a D1Softball second-team All-American after striking out 289 batters—the fourth-most in Division I. She ranked in the top five of the Big 12 in innings pitched, saves, shutouts, strikeout-to-walk ratio, strikeouts, and wins. Her signature moment came on March 6 against BYU, when she tied a program single-game record with 18 strikeouts.
This season, she's been just as dominant, earning first-team All-Big 12 honors and proving she's one of the most feared pitchers in the country. As the NCAA tournament gets underway, all eyes will be on Brown to see if she can lead Arizona State back to the Women's College World Series.
