Stefon Diggs is a DMV native through and through. Born in Gaithersburg, Maryland, he played high school ball locally before starring at the University of Maryland and launching an NFL career that has spanned 11 standout seasons. After stints with the Vikings, Bills, Texans, and most recently the Patriots, the veteran wide receiver became an unrestricted free agent this spring when New England released him. Now, as the offseason rolls on, he remains unsigned—and speculation is heating up about a possible homecoming.

Could Diggs suit up for his hometown Washington Commanders? The team boasts electrifying young quarterback Jayden Daniels and a receiver room that could use a proven playmaker opposite Terry McLaurin. When a reporter from The Team 980-AM in the Washington market asked Diggs if he had talked to any Commanders players about joining the squad, he didn't shy away from the possibility.

"A little bit," Diggs said at a charity event for his Diggs Deep Foundation. "I'm familiar with the city. I'm familiar with the people, so we're going to see down the pipe over these next couple months what looks good, what makes sense. I definitely want to shed some light on them and I might go check them out for a little bit. It's love. It's hometown, so it makes sense. But right now (I'm taking) a breath. I've been training and doing everything I'm supposed to but I'm more targeting on the charitable stuff right now, and everything else will fall into place."

Diggs' comments come amid a busy offseason for the receiver, who was recently found not guilty of felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges by a Massachusetts jury. On the field, despite turning 33 before the season starts, Diggs remains a productive force—he racked up 1,013 receiving yards last year and has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in seven of the last eight seasons. For a Commanders team looking to add veteran firepower, the hometown hero might just be the missing piece.
