Tate is already Tennessee's WR1.

The Tennessee Titans made a bold statement in the 2026 NFL Draft, selecting wide receiver Carnell Tate with the fourth overall pick—a move that instantly places him in rare company. Top-five wide receiver selections are still a gamble, and history shows mixed results: Travis Hunter is still adjusting after going second overall a year ago, Marvin Harrison Jr. is battling the "generational" label, and Titans fans still remember Corey Davis. But Tate arrives with a different kind of buzz, already being crowned Tennessee's WR1 before even stepping onto the field.

As the co-star to quarterback Cameron Ward, Tate is being asked to replicate the kind of instant chemistry Ja'Marr Chase found with Joe Burrow. That's a high bar, but even coming close would be a win for a Titans offense hungry for a true No. 1 target. So what can fans realistically expect from their new star receiver?

I've built a projection model to forecast rookie seasons, using historical data and team context to separate the hype from reality. The challenge with newcomers like Tate is the lack of NFL tape, but we can look at the pieces around him. Tennessee also added wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson, who saw 140 targets for the second straight year in 2025 and posted 1,014 yards. His hefty contract and connection to offensive coordinator Brian Daboll could give him an edge on the field, but in my projections, Tate consistently emerges as the Titans' top option.

Median Projection for Carnell Tate: 95 targets, 60 receptions, 754 yards, 4.3 touchdowns

These numbers aren't eye-popping, and that's okay. Projection models tend to gravitate toward league averages, especially for rookies. But for Titans fans, a 750-yard, 5-touchdown debut from a first-round pick would be a solid foundation—and a sign that Tennessee's future through the air is in good hands.
