The BCCI has officially unveiled the IPL 2026 playoff schedule, and this year's knockout stage is set to break tradition. Instead of the usual two-city format, the playoffs will be spread across three different venues, promising a fresh and exciting end to the season.
Mark your calendars for May 31, when Ahmedabad's iconic Narendra Modi Stadium will host the grand final. This marks the fourth time the venue has been chosen for the title match, having previously staged the finals in 2022, 2023, and 2025. Bengaluru, originally in the running, lost out on hosting duties due to logistical and local authority demands that exceeded BCCI norms.
The playoff action kicks off on May 26 with Qualifier 1, where the top two teams from the league stage battle for a direct ticket to the final. This high-stakes clash will take place at the scenic HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.
From there, the spotlight shifts to the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh (Mullanpur), which will host two crucial matches. First up is the Eliminator on May 27, featuring the third and fourth-placed teams. The winner earns a shot at redemption in Qualifier 2, while the loser is eliminated. Then, on May 29, Qualifier 2 brings together the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator, with the victor securing the second spot in the final.
This three-city playoff structure is described by the BCCI as a "special case" driven by operational considerations, adding an extra layer of intrigue to an already thrilling tournament. Whether you're a fan of the mountains or the big stadium atmosphere, this year's playoffs have something for everyone.
