The 2025/26 Championship season ends this weekend with one automatic promotion place still up for grabs and the play-off places yet to be decided.
Last night, Southampton could only manage a 2-2 draw at home to Ipswich Town after Jack Clarke's 87-minute equaliser.
It's a result that kept the Tractor Boys in provisional second place going into the final day and ensured Southampton have a play-off spot guaranteed although they are no longer in the race for second place.
Three teams all have a chance of finishing behind champions Coventry City this season and one of them will end up avoiding potential play-off heartbreak.
As we said, Ipswich Town are currently second on 81 points, one ahead of Millwall and two more than Middlesbrough.
Kieran McKenna's side will host Queens Park Rangers knowing that a win is enough against a team who are currently in the middle of the pack.
On paper, Millwall have the easiest opponent and should be in prime position to take advantage if Ipswich slip up. The Lions host already-relegated Oxford United as they hope to make history and reach the Premier League for the first team.
Meanwhile, Middlesbrough require both teams to make mistakes but they have a difficult fixture. Boro will be travelling to take on a Wrexham team who also have a big final day...
We already know which teams will finish in the top five which leaves us with one final play-off spot up for grabs.
It is Wrexham who currently occupy that final play-off place but they of course have that difficult game against Boro.
The Red Dragons are sixth solely because they have a superior goal difference to Hull City by just one goal. The Tigers know that Wrexham can beat Boro but as long as they get a good goal-margin over Norwich City (no easy task) then they could reach sixth.
Eager for both teams to drop points is Derby County who will host Sheffield United on Saturday. The Rams are just a point behind and in the unlikely event that both Wrexham and Hull lose and Derby draw then they also enjoy a healthy goal difference.
As always in the Championship the permutations are clear but on the day things will no doubt twist and turn as the afternoon goes on.
