The Jacksonville Jaguars have been busy this offseason, and according to one insider, the team's most improved position group is clear: the cornerback room.

ESPN's Michael DiRocco, who covers the Jaguars for NFL Nation, highlighted the cornerbacks as the unit that has elevated the most following free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft. The driving force behind this upgrade? A healthy Travis Hunter.

Hunter, who played only 37% of defensive snaps last season before being sidelined by injury, is expected to take on a much larger role in 2026. "The Jaguars believe Hunter was their best corner despite the smaller workload on defense," DiRocco noted. With his elite ball skills and natural coverage instincts, Hunter has the potential to be a game-changer on the outside.

But the improvement doesn't stop there. Jacksonville also secured a key piece by re-signing Montaric Brown, who enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2025 and will now start opposite Hunter. At the nickel spot, veteran Jourdan Lewis is poised to bounce back after a foot injury cut his 2025 season short in Week 16. If Lewis returns to form, DiRocco believes "cornerback will be the Jaguars' strongest position group."

Adding depth to the mix is versatile defensive back Jarrian Jones, who will serve as the first option off the bench. This revamped secondary could be a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks, especially considering the Jaguars were already one of the NFL's best at forcing turnovers last season.

Sticky coverage on the back end doesn't just create takeaways—it also helps the pass rush. As star edge rusher Josh Hines-Allen recently pointed out, better coverage gives him and his teammates more time to get to the quarterback. With a deeper, healthier, and more talented cornerback unit, the Jaguars' defense looks poised to take another leap in 2026.
