It's no secret that Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles hasn't had much luck when it comes to selecting in the third round of the NFL Draft during his four-year tenure.

The third round is filled with some big-time failures, including wide receiver Velus Jones Jr., defensive tackle Zacch Pickens and offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie, the lone third rounder still on the roster heading into the 2026 season. So there's a lot of pressure on Poles as Chicago holds the 89th overall selection in this draft.

Following the Bears' first three picks, in the third round, I can see Chicago start to go away from their team's needs and drift into a territory that could make them better on offense, or double down on a position to add depth or competition.

Mandatory Credit: Raj Mehta-USA TODAY SportsAdd another playmakerChicago had a top-30 visit with Ole Miss wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling, who ran a 4.36 40-yard dash, is 6-foot-2, and is a tremendous blocker out on the edges, having played in a heavy RPO system in college. This is an option along with other receivers like Skyler Bell, a speedy slot receiver who played his final college season at UConn after playing in Wisconsin. But other receivers like Chris Bell from Louisville or Deion Burks from Oklahoma could be options for coach Ben Johnson to add to his arsenal.

Sam Hecht could easily be the option here at No. 89, and a good chance to break the third-round curse. Chicago went to Kansas State and worked with Hecht, and offensive line coach Dan Roushar built a relationship with him during his pro day. Garrett Bradbury isn’t the long-term answer for the Bears at center, and in the final year of the two-year deal he signed with the New England Patriots, drafting Hecht, letting him develop and learn could be the best, because quarterback Caleb Williams needs a center he can mesh with and build a lasting connection with after Drew Dalman's surprising retirement this offseason.
