MANHATTAN — The transfer portal has been a whirlwind for new Kansas State basketball coach Casey Alexander, but as he settles into his Manhattan hotel room, he's finally able to take a breath and appreciate the roster he's assembled.

Since being named the Wildcats' head coach, Alexander has been on a mission. He's added 12 new players through the transfer portal, retained one from last season's team, and logged more frequent flyer miles than he cares to count. But for Alexander, the grind was worth it.

"The common denominator for every player we brought in is that they put the team above everything else," Alexander said. "I made it clear from day one: if you're worried about anything other than winning, being a great teammate, and playing together, it's just not going to work out well for anybody."

The inaugural 13-man roster is a mix of experienced transfers and promising freshmen, including incoming recruits Devin Hutcherson and Jaylen Alexander. While some of these players didn't put up eye-popping numbers at their previous stops, Alexander sees untapped potential that can be developed into Big 12-caliber talent.

"There are big differences going from one program to the next," Alexander explained. "How somebody performed at one place isn't entirely a predictor of how it's going to go somewhere else. We wanted the right people, the right kind of guys, and we had to do it on a budget. We're really pleased with how things turned out."

Alexander's staff is also taking shape, with Sean Rutigliano serving as general manager and Wes Long stepping in as chief of staff. The roster could still grow if Alexander finds a practice-caliber player worth adding, but for now, he's focused on building chemistry with the pieces he has.

For Wildcats fans eager to see what this new-look team can do, the message is clear: this is a roster built on selflessness, development, and a shared commitment to winning. And in Alexander's system, that might just be the perfect formula.
