PITTSBURGH — With its second pick on Night 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Penn State quarterback Drew Allar with the 76th overall pick, becoming the second quarterback off the board in the third round.
The Steelers had a strong contingent of University of Pitt fans in attendance on Friday, April 24, but there was also a bulk of Penn State fans in the draft theater that cheered on the now former Nittany Lion. While the reaction from the crowd on site showered praise, the reaction online was much different.
Here is how the rest of the Steelers’ fanbase is reacting to the news that Allar will be heading to the Steel City.
In Pennsylvania, there is always a bitter hatred between Pitt and Penn State fans and individuals on the always friendly world of social media, the two sides of fans certainly made their thoughts known.
One Pitt fan wrote that Allar’s ability to win games are in question, most recently losing to Oregon at home during the 2025 season, among other games that the team fell short.
Bro couldn't beat Oregon at home but yeah, he'll do great against out division opponents. What a waste of a pick
While one fan doesn’t agree with the pick, that going in a different direction would be a better game plan, the fan acknowledges general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike McCarthy’s willingness to take chances.

With another young quarterback and three now on the roster due to the waiting game with Aaron Rodgers stretching on for the second consecutive season, this fan wants to test out the young arms, along with veteran Mason Rudolph.
Let’s goooooo. Wouldn’t have been my choice but at least we’re trying. Tell Rodgers to beat it now
Allar had an exceptional career and while Allar fell short in some of the bigger games, this fan believes that Allar will be able to make an impact at the NFL level.
At Penn State, the gunslinger set the school record for completion percentage (62.2) and interception percentage (1.3), third in touchdown passes (61) and fourth in 200-yard passing games (200).
While many fans had the same reaction as when Kenny Pickett was drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, time will tell if Allar and or Howard will make an impact in the NFL
