The Philadelphia 76ers are ushering in a new chapter after parting ways with Daryl Morey, who served as President of Basketball Operations for six seasons. While Morey helped the team make strides, the results fell short of expectations: four second-round playoff exits, one first-round loss, and a missed postseason. Now, the franchise is pivoting, and all eyes are on Bob Myers to guide the transition.

Myers, the former Golden State Warriors GM who led them to four championships over 12 seasons, was hired by Sixers governors Josh Harris and David Blitzer as president of Harris & Blitzer Sports Entertainment. He’ll step into an interim role to oversee basketball operations, but don’t expect him to take the job permanently. According to Jake Fischer via The Stein Line substack, Myers is scheduled to head to Chicago soon to tackle pressing tasks, but once Morey’s successor is named, he’ll shift back into an advisory capacity.

Myers will interview both internal and external candidates for the role, though it’s still too early to name frontrunners. This approach makes sense—Myers has been around the Sixers all season, offering support without signaling a takeover. It always felt like he was there to help, not to replace Morey outright.

That said, the NBA moves fast. Myers could lead the search and ultimately emerge as the right fit for the job. With the offseason approaching, expect movement in the coming weeks as the Sixers gear up for a critical summer. Whether Myers stays in an advisory role or steps up, Philadelphia is entering an era of change—and the basketball world will be watching closely.
