Wetsch Signs ELC With Sharks

The San Jose Sharks have locked up another promising young talent, signing forward Carson Wetsch to a three-year entry-level contract. Selected in the third round of the 2024 NHL Draft, Wetsch brings a blend of skill, grit, and leadership that has Sharks fans buzzing about the future.

Wetsch just wrapped up a career-defining season with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League. The 20-year-old winger posted personal WHL bests across the board—50 assists and 72 points—while also lighting the lamp 33 times. As team captain, he led a Rockets squad stacked with NHL prospects, including 2024 sixth-overall pick Tij Iginla. Standing 6-foot-2 and known for his physical, heart-and-soul style, Wetsch is the kind of player every contender needs in the bottom six.

There's a special connection here, too. Wetsch grew up in North Vancouver with Sharks superstar Macklin Celebrini, and the two have been chasing their NHL dreams side by side. "They really fulfilled their dreams together," one source noted, highlighting the brotherhood that runs deep in this Sharks pipeline. Wetsch's leadership was further recognized with an invitation to Hockey Canada's 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase.

Scouts rave about his consistency. As Scott Wheeler wrote in The Athletic, "Wetsch is a well-rounded winger who plays the game the right way, knows his role and is consistent shift to shift." That reliable, energy-forward style earned him an honorable mention in San Jose Hockey Now's post-trade deadline top-10 Sharks prospects rankings.

But Wetsch's junior season isn't over yet. The Kelowna Rockets will host the Memorial Cup beginning May 21, giving him one more chance to shine on the big stage. He'll have company there—fellow 2024 Sharks draft pick Christian Kirsch, a fourth-round goalie, will be between the pipes for the OHL champion Kitchener Rangers. It's a glimpse of the future wearing teal.
