Westerville North basketball star Elijah McCree has made his college decision official, and it's a move that caps one of the most remarkable breakout seasons in central Ohio high school basketball.
The senior guard, who led the Warriors to the Division II state final, announced on his Instagram page May 6 that he has committed to play for Cedarville University. In his post, McCree wrote "#agtg"—an abbreviation for "all glory to God"—signaling the faith-driven approach that has guided his journey.
McCree's rise has been nothing short of spectacular. After serving as the Warriors' sixth man during their Division II state championship run in 2024-25, he exploded onto the scene this winter, averaging 20.0 points, 3.8 assists, 3.3 steals, and 2.5 rebounds per game. His efforts helped Westerville North (26-2) return to the state final, where they fell 68-63 in overtime to Massillon Washington.
His individual accolades were equally impressive, earning both district and state Player of the Year honors. One of the season's defining moments came on January 31 against Cleveland St. Ignatius, when McCree drained a program-record eight three-pointers and finished with 32 points. He followed that with a game-high 25 points in a state semifinal rout of North Royalton and added 21 points and six rebounds in the championship game.
Cedarville University, located about 60 miles southwest of Columbus in Greene County, competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference at the Division II level. The 13-team league also includes Ohio Dominican, giving McCree a chance to stay close to home while continuing his basketball journey.
For a player who went from sixth man to state Player of the Year, this commitment marks the next chapter in a story that has captured the attention of Ohio basketball fans. As he trades his high school jersey for a college one, McCree's journey is a reminder that breakout seasons can lead to big opportunities.
