Apr. 25—The West Morgan Rebels will be on the lookout for a new boys basketball coach after the departure of previous coach Bobby Meyer.

Meyer was announced as the new head coach at Fairview on Friday. He spent two seasons at West Morgan, reaching the Elite Eight both years and being named The Decatur Daily Coach of the Year this past season.

"One thing we always ask of our coaches is to leave a place better than they found it, and coach Meyer certainly did," West Morgan Athletic Director Mike Johnson said. "He got the best out of our players, and we want to thank him for everything he did."

Johnson said the school will begin the search for a new coach immediately. The Rebels have had plenty of success in recent years, with three straight appearances in the Elite Eight and trips to the Northwest Regional tournament under each of their last four coaches. They also return three starters off last year's Elite Eight team, including Landon Henderson, who averaged 23 points, five rebounds and five assists per game and 96 steals this past season.

"We want to find someone that has a similar vision that we share for all our athletic programs," Johnson said. "We want players that work hard, are disciplined and can be leaders on and off the court. We want a coach that can build a program and be a leader for those types of players."
