West Ham had a late equaliser ruled out after a lengthy VAR review for a foul on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya

In a dramatic Premier League clash that had fans on the edge of their seats, West Ham United were left fuming after a late equalizer against Arsenal was controversially ruled out by VAR, sparking a heated debate about officiating consistency.

The Hammers, fighting to secure their top-flight status, thought they had earned a vital point when Callum Wilson headed home from a corner, canceling out Leandro Trossard's 82nd-minute strike. But the celebrations were short-lived as VAR intervened, disallowing the goal after a lengthy review determined that West Ham striker Pablo Felipe had fouled Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya in the build-up.

West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen didn't hold back in his post-match assessment, expressing bewilderment at the decision. "If you ask any goalkeeper in the league if they've been illegally blocked, pulled, or pushed on corners this season, you won't find anyone who hasn't experienced it," he said. "So to give this one, I'm not sure I understand why."

The Danish shot-stopper pointed to what he sees as glaring inconsistencies in how such incidents are handled. "We watched it afterward, and there are shirt pulls on Mavropanos, shirt pulls on Soucek, even shirt pulls on Pablo before the goal. To pick this situation out of all of them..." he added, trailing off in frustration.

Interestingly, Hermansen acknowledged the foul itself was technically correct but questioned why it was punished in this instance when similar incidents have gone unpenalized all season. "I agree it's a foul—you can give that. But with what has been given during this season—goals from illegal blocks, pulls, and pushing on goalkeepers—I don't understand why that's been called here."

The West Ham keeper revealed he had a candid conversation with Arsenal's David Raya after the match, suggesting even the opposing goalkeeper sees the inconsistency. "I spoke with David after the game, and I think we have the same experience on this matter this season. He has every right to ask for a free kick, but you can find plenty of situations where it's been different."

For fans watching at home, this incident adds another chapter to the ongoing VAR controversy in the Premier League, where the line between fair challenge and foul remains frustratingly blurred. As the season heats up, both teams will be hoping for clearer, more consistent officiating in these crucial moments.
