Wendell Carter Jr. is suiting up with a new look, but his focus remains squarely on the Orlando Magic's postseason push. The veteran center is playing through a broken nose suffered earlier this week, donning a protective mask that he's taking in stride.

"It's kind of like the vibe I'm getting from it," Carter said with a grin, drawing a parallel to his days as a youth football wide receiver in Atlanta. He's no stranger to gear adjustments, having worn goggles on the court before. "It's just another roadblock to my success."

That success this season includes a significant personal milestone: durability. For the first time in his eight-year NBA career, Carter has played in at least 70 games, logging a career-high 76 appearances entering the weekend. He's averaging 11.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2 assists per game, providing a steady presence for a young Magic squad in the thick of the playoff race.

"It was something that's been a goal of mine for the past two or three years," Carter said of his health. "So for it to actually come to life and me to be available for these games, it means a lot."

But for the former 7th overall pick, the work isn't done. With the regular season winding down, his focus has shifted from availability to elevated performance. "Now it's about being a little bit more consistent," he admitted. "I've had stretches throughout this year where I haven't been playing my best basketball... It's just about being better while I'm out there."

His return to Chicago—the city of the team that drafted him—highlights his journey. Acquired by Orlando in a major trade five years ago, Carter has grown into a foundational piece for the Magic. As the team gears up for the playoffs, his consistency and toughness, mask and all, will be key components in their quest to make noise in the Eastern Conference.
