The Blooming Prairie softball team faced a tough challenge on the road Thursday, falling to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 12-5. The loss drops BP to 3-8 overall, while WEM improves to an even 4-4 on the season.
Despite the final score, the Blooming Prairie lineup showed some spark at the plate. Bella Schiller led the charge with a double and an RBI, proving that the team's bats are heating up even in defeat. Kenley Bangert also had a strong day, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Natalie Winzenburg matched that with a 2-for-4 performance that included a double and a run scored.
On the mound, Aubree Johnson battled through six innings of work, striking out three batters but struggling with control, issuing seven walks and allowing 10 hits. The defense will look to tighten up as the season progresses.
Other offensive contributors included Madelyn Harvey (1-for-4, RBI, run), Annika Schwarck (1-for-4, RBI), and Raylee Miner (1-for-3). Johnson also helped her own cause at the plate, drawing two walks and scoring a run.
With the season still young, Blooming Prairie has plenty of time to turn things around. Look for them to bounce back and sharpen both their hitting and pitching as they aim for a strong finish.
