Wellington baseball star Cade Keller has been named the Blue FCU Boys Athlete of the Week, and it's easy to see why. The senior slugger delivered a standout performance at the plate, helping the Eagles lock up a spot in the Class 3A regionals.
Over a three-game stretch against Severance, Berthoud, and Bennett, Keller went an impressive 6-for-9, smashing a home run, a double, and driving in seven RBIs while scoring three runs. His biggest moment came against Bennett, where he launched a towering homer and notched a career-high five RBIs—a testament to his power and consistency.
Keller has been a cornerstone of the Wellington program since its inaugural season in 2023, and his leadership shines through as a four-year starter. This season, he's leading the Eagles with a .409 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage, setting the table for a lineup that's averaging nearly seven runs per game. That offensive firepower helped Wellington finish the regular season at 13-10 overall and 10-6 in league play.
Now, the Eagles are headed to the postseason as the No. 22 seed in 3A Region 6, where they'll compete at Prospect Ridge Academy on May 15-16. Keller's hot bat will be crucial as they look to make a deep run.
Wellington fans showed their support at the polls, helping Keller secure the win with 32.2% of the total vote. He edged out a strong field of nominees, including PSD lacrosse's Liam Pettis, who finished as runner-up with 29% of the vote. Other contenders included Rocky Mountain football's Bode Nesbitt, Poudre's Owen Addington, PSD's Marli Brenner, and Wellington softball's Kensley Story—all of whom have earned Blue FCU honors this season.
Keller is just the third local baseball player to claim the weekly award this spring, joining Timnath's Dane Wyman and Fort Collins' Dylan Rubenstein. With the postseason underway, all eyes will be on Keller and the Eagles as they aim to make noise in the regionals.
