In the world of high school lacrosse, milestones are the moments that define a career—and for Marshwood High School senior Hayden Demeroto, Wednesday was a day to remember.
The Hawks faced off against Windham in a tight Class B battle on May 6, ultimately securing an 8-6 victory. But for Demeroto, the game’s biggest highlight came in the fourth quarter. With just over three minutes left on the clock, he found the back of the net for the 100th time in his high school career.
It wasn’t just any goal—it was a statement. Demeroto dodged one defender, slipped past another, and fired a left-handed shot into the net, giving Marshwood a two-goal cushion. The crowd erupted, and first-year head coach Adrian Ward wasted no time calling a timeout to celebrate the achievement and retrieve the game ball as a keepsake.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen him grin so much,” Ward said with a laugh. “He was very excited about it. He knew he was at 99 goals coming in, but he just wanted me to wait a little bit. I told him he was holding out on me!”
For Demeroto, the milestone adds another chapter to an already impressive season and cements his legacy as one of the program’s top scorers. It’s the kind of moment that reminds us why we love sports—the hard work, the dedication, and the joy of reaching a goal that once seemed out of reach.
Whether you’re chasing 100 goals or just starting your lacrosse journey, moments like these inspire us to keep pushing. And at Marshwood, they’ll be celebrating this one for a long time.
