As the Premier League season barrels toward its thrilling conclusion, Manchester City defender Marc Guéhi has issued a rallying cry: the title race is still very much alive, and it's up to City to keep the pressure on.
With just three matches remaining in the league campaign, Pep Guardiola's side finds themselves five points behind leaders Arsenal—but crucially, with a game in hand. That advantage could prove decisive when City host Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday at 20:00 (UK). A win would trim the gap to just two points, setting up a tense finish as the Gunners face Burnley on Monday.
"It's over to us to try and keep it alive and take it to the last stage again," Guéhi said, his focus unwavering. The defender emphasized the importance of self-belief and internal drive during this high-stakes period. "Everyone's different, everyone has their own way of dealing with things. I don't really want to focus too much on what other people are doing. The most important thing we can do is focus on ourselves."
That mentality, Guéhi explained, runs deep through the squad. "Especially a football club like this, I think everyone is putting pressure on themselves. The good thing is we've all got that same mentality. That's the only way you can go on and achieve things and improve. It's really good that everyone's demanding of themselves as well as each other."
Wednesday's clash carries extra emotional weight for the England international, who will face his former club for the first time since making the move to City in January. "It's nice, it'll be nice to see old team-mates and old staff members from the club that gave me so much," Guéhi reflected. "I'm truly grateful to them and wouldn't be here without them. It's a game of a lot of significance for me."
Since arriving in the north, Guéhi has been forging new partnerships at the heart of City's defense, most notably alongside Abdukodir Khusanov. "It's been great playing with him. He's a top player, an even better guy," Guéhi said. "I've been learning a lot from every single person I've played with—Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake that I played with at the weekend. It's been a joy to play with them."
As the season enters its final, defining weeks, City's resolve will be tested—but with players like Guéhi leading the charge, the title race is far from over.
