Way too early 2027 bracketology has Villanova dancing again

Dance like nobody’s watching.

It's only May, but the echoes of Villanova's 9-seed loss to Utah State in the 2026 NCAA Tournament are still ringing in the ears of Wildcats fans. For head coach Kevin Willard, last season was a triumphant return to the Big Dance—proof that the program was back on the national stage. But that early exit left a bitter "what if" lingering in the air.

Now, with the dust settling on one of the wildest transfer portal cycles of the Willard era, we're getting our first glimpse of what's next. Underdog Sports' Nick Bateman has released his Way-Too-Early 2027 CBB Bracketology, and Villanova is back in the field. The Wildcats are slotted as a 10-seed in the East region, setting up a potential first-round showdown with the 7-seeded Clemson Tigers.

This projection is a testament to Willard's aggressive, all-in approach to the portal. After seemingly losing the entire roster from last season, the coaching staff essentially rebuilt the engine while the car was still moving. The result? A team that looks deeper, more athletic, and more dangerous than the one that fell flat in the 2026 tournament.

The foundation starts with Tyler Perkins—the reigning Big East Most Improved Player—alongside Matt Hodge. But the supporting cast is entirely new. The backcourt gets a massive boost from UIC transfer Elijah Crawford, while Cornell's Jake Fiegen brings a 41.4% three-point shooting threat that has been missing since the Collin Gillespie era.

The frontcourt is where this team's ceiling gets interesting. Landing 6-foot-10 former 4-star recruit Kwame Evans Jr. from Oregon, along with 13.7 PPG scorer Devin Royal from Ohio State, gives Villanova a level of modern athleticism and length we haven't seen in years. Add in 7-foot-1 Nico Onyekwere, who withdrew from the portal hoping for a larger role on the Main Line, and top-60 recruit Adam Oumiddoch, and you have a roster that looks significantly more balanced than last season's squad.

A matchup with Clemson would be a true litmus test for this new-look Wildcats team. Brad Brownell's Tigers are undergoing their own transformation, but for Villanova fans, the early bracketology buzz is a welcome sign: the Wildcats are dancing again, and this time, they might just have the pieces to make some noise.
