Washington Huskies outfielder Sophi Mazzola earned a spot on the All-Big Ten Tournament Team as she looks to spark UW's lineup in the postseason.

The Washington Huskies are gearing up for a pivotal NCAA Tournament opener against the South Florida Bulls this Friday, and all eyes are on the bottom of the lineup. Head coach Heather Tarr knows that consistent base runners are key to setting the table for her power hitters, and one player is stepping up at just the right time.

Sophomore right fielder Sophi Mazzola has been turning heads with her postseason poise, earning a well-deserved spot on the All-Big Ten Tournament Team. In two games at College Park, Maryland, the Eureka, Missouri native went 2-for-4 with a walk, flashing her athleticism on both sides of the ball. Her bunt single and sharp outfield defense showed exactly why she's a threat in any situation.

As the Huskies head into the Fayetteville Regional, Mazzola's speed could be a game-changer. She tied for the team lead with six stolen bases in seven attempts this season, following up a freshman campaign where she swiped 13 bags. With All-Big Ten Freshman Team honoree Kaycie Burdick and First Team standouts Alexis DeBoer and Giselle Alvarez anchoring the top of the order, Mazzola's ability to get on base and create chaos could spark quick, explosive rallies for Washington.

While her power numbers dipped slightly—three home runs this year compared to eight as a freshman—Mazzola still put together a strong sophomore season. She posted a .318 batting average on 34 hits, including nine doubles and a triple, drove in 20 runs, drew 11 walks, and finished with a .930 OPS. Her consistency at the bottom of the order has been a steadying force for a young lineup.

The Huskies are chasing their first trip to the Women's College World Series since 2023, and Mazzola's energy and athleticism could be the spark they need. Washington faces South Florida on Friday, May 15, at 5:00 p.m. PT, and if Mazzola keeps producing, the Huskies' postseason run could be something special.
