The Washington Huskies' perfect start to Big Ten conference play has come to an end. In a hard-fought Friday night showdown, the No. 17 Oregon Ducks handed the Huskies their first league loss with an 8-4 victory in Eugene.

Washington found themselves in an early 3-0 hole, but showed their trademark resilience with a dramatic comeback in the sixth inning. Giselle Alvarez launched a solo shot, her 15th of the season, before freshman standout Melody Acevedo drove in the tying run with a clutch double, electrifying the Husky dugout.

That momentum was short-lived, however, as the Ducks responded with a devastating blow in the bottom of the frame. After starter Morgan Reimer (22-3) exited, the Oregon offense capitalized, with catcher Emma Cox delivering the decisive hit—a grand slam, her second homer of the game—to break the tie wide open.

Oregon's ace, Lyndsey Grein, matched Reimer with her 22nd win of the season, going the distance with 10 strikeouts to secure the victory for the Ducks.

The loss moves Washington to 34-10 overall and 15-1 in the Big Ten. This intense rivalry series is far from over, as the two powerhouse programs will meet again Saturday afternoon.
