For the first time since the series sweep against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Washington Nationals have now secured consecutive wins.
The Nationals took down the Chicago White Sox in the rubber match on Sunday in a 2-1 extra innings win.
All three runs came in the tenth inning in a game that featured eight combined hits, while the win pushes the Nationals to 3-3 in extra inning games this season.
A big part of that was the emergence of Foster Griffin in his latest dazzling performance, tossing eight strikeouts and just two walks while allowing a pair of hits in seven innings, becoming the third Nationals pitcher to last at least six innings this season. His eight strikeouts and seven innings also both marked career highs for Griffin.

Griffin would get out of an early jam after a single against the first batter faced eventually drove him to third base, but three consecutive strikeouts ended the threat, foreshadowing what would come the rest of the day.
The Nationals starter also tossed out the side in the fourth inning before the Nationals suffered three strikeouts on four batters.
The quiet game continued into the ninth inning with the Nationals threatening after Nasim Nunez singled into left field then stole second. Drew Millas then flied out into center field, but it was enough to push Nunez to third with a chance for the sac fly to drive in the game winning run.
James Wood would draw a walk to put runners on the corners, but that would be the extent of the scoring threat after Curtis Mead fouled out down the first base line before Daylen Lile ended the frame with a pop out to second. Chicago would get a runner on second after Richard Lovelady gave up a single to left, but a pair of strikeouts over the last three batters faced to send the games into extra innings.
Lile advanced to third on a sac fly from Jorbit Vivas to open the tenth inning, setting up a sac fly from CJ Abrams for the game winning run. Jose Tena proved to deliver the game sealing run after knocking through a 403 foot home run to right centerfield before the White Sox tallied one run in the bottom of the frame.
Now sitting 13-16 overall and 10-6 in away games, the Nationals will enjoy a much welcomed off day on Monday before traveling to New York to face the Mets for a three game series beginning on Tuesday.
