Doug Williams says the Washington uniforms should have never changed.

Last week, the Commanders' media sat down with former Washington Redskins quarterback Doug Williams. They recorded Williams as he opened a package to see the new uniforms and new helmets. They wanted to get his initial reactions and react, which is just what the Super Bowl XXII winning quarterback did. "Oh man," was what Williams first said when he opened the new glossy helmet. "This is what it is all about right here," said Williams.

Next came the opening of the new alternate black jersey which contains more burgundy and gold that the previous uniform, which too much resembled something the Steelers might wear. "Now, we going to go black, this is how you go," said the smiling Williams.

Thirdly, Williams took a cover off of a helmet and there was the new alternate helmet. Williams immediately raised his chin, closed his eyes, dropping his head backward, his face now to the ceiling. "Oh, oh, oh, oh," gushed Williams. Now smiling Williams gave out five "Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh" expressions. He absolutely loved the spear through the 'W'.

Williams then expressed, "This organization is a nostalgia organization. You know, I feel like the uniform should have never been changed. You know, when you look at Green Bay and teams like that, the Chicago Bears, they've been around a long time. You watch their uniform. They don't change. Here we are (Washington franchise) and almost what, 100 years old?"

He is correct, the franchise began in 1932 as the Boston Braves, then became the Boston Redskins in 1933, and moved to Washington in 1937, and were the Redskins until the 2020 season. Williams continued, "We shouldn't have changed, man. People remember the nostalgia." He's right, those old enough to have watched Washington go to four Super Bowls from the 1982-1991 seasons, winning three of them, are going to love the new Super Bowl era uniforms, because the franchise is back to looking like the winning team we all watched 40 years ago. The younger fans simply can't understand, because they didn't live it. That's how life is, we understand better what we have actually experienced.

Owner Josh Harris understands the NFL is not going to support a move back to "Redskins." They left the Redskins hanging out there all alone in 2020, afraid to support them. But Harris is bringing back the uniform and some of the older logos to at least give the fan base a feeling of the team they have rooted for and watched for decades.
