The Washington Huskies made the top five for one of the nation's best wide receivers in the 2027 class.

The Washington Huskies are making waves on the recruiting trail, and they've just landed a spot in the top five for one of the most electrifying wide receivers in the 2027 class. Four-star standout Osani Gayles, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound dynamo from Tracy, California, currently playing at IMG Academy in Florida, announced Wednesday morning that Jedd Fisch's program is among his finalists.

Gayles, ranked as the No. 35 overall player and No. 7 wide receiver nationally by 247Sports, trimmed his list from 30 offers to five, joining Alabama, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Stanford. The most surprising omission? USC—a program Gayles had previously scheduled an official visit with. According to a report from Rivals' Hayes Fawcett, those summer plans have shifted, and Gayles is now locked in with each of his five finalists. So far, only two dates are publicly confirmed: Alabama on May 29 and Tennessee on June 12.

For Washington, this is a significant momentum builder. The Huskies have three major visit weekends lined up: May 29, June 5, and June 19. With wide receivers coach Kevin Cummings leading the charge, the staff will likely push to get Gayles on campus for the June 19 weekend—a date that also features four-star wide receiver Tre Moore. Washington already has two four-star wide receiver commits in the 2027 class—Braylon Pope and Zerek Sidney—but Gayles is the kind of elite talent that makes coaches rethink their roster math.

What makes Gayles so special? 247Sports' Andrew Ivins describes him as a "gifted inside receiver with the intelligence, confidence, and polish to elevate any passing attack." He manipulates defenders with smooth route tempo, snaps out of breaks at crisp angles, and uses advanced releases to bypass coverage. He's combative in 50-50 situations, slippery after the catch, and stacks cuts to avoid would-be tacklers. In short, he's the kind of playmaker who can transform an offense.

For Washington fans, this recruitment is one to watch closely. Fisch and his staff are clearly aiming high, and landing a talent like Gayles would be a statement for the program's future.
