Since Jedd Fisch took the helm at Washington, no position group has needed a bigger infusion of young talent than the defensive line. The Huskies' coaching staff, led by defensive line guru Jason Kaufusi, has been working tirelessly to rebuild that unit, and on Wednesday, they took another big step forward by extending an offer to a promising 2028 prospect from Utah.

Kaufusi made his way to West High School in Salt Lake City to offer defensive tackle Samuel Chien-Tauvao, a 6-foot-2, 290-pound powerhouse who has already caught the attention of several top programs. Ranked as the nation's No. 570 overall recruit and No. 53 defensive lineman in the 2028 class by the Rivals Industry, Chien-Tauvao is a disruptive force in the trenches. He currently holds seven offers, including from Boise State, Colorado, Penn State, and Washington State, making this a key recruiting battle for the Huskies.

Chien-Tauvao began his high school career at Brighton High School, where he quickly established himself as a dominant interior defender. His combination of size, strength, and athleticism makes him a nightmare for opposing offensive lines. At the prep level, he thrives as a pass rusher thanks to an explosive first step and a relentless motor that keeps him in plays from start to finish. As a run defender, his wide frame allows him to eat up space and clog running lanes, making him a versatile weapon in the middle of the defensive line.

With some time in a college weight room, Chien-Tauvao has the potential to become a cornerstone player for a Power 4 program. The Huskies have already secured two defensive line commits in the 2027 class—four-star tackle Jon Ioane and three-star lineman Matamatagi Uiagalelei—but it's never too early to start building for the future. Landing a player of Chien-Tauvao's caliber would be a major statement for Fisch's program as they continue to compete with the Big Ten's elite in the trenches.
