The Washington Huskies have secured the future of their women's basketball program, signing head coach Tina Langley to a six-year contract extension that will keep her on Montlake through the 2031-32 season. The deal, reportedly worth $7.1 million, was confirmed by the university on Thursday, signaling a major commitment to stability and continued growth.
This move comes at a pivotal moment for the program. Langley, who just completed her fifth season, recently led the Huskies to their first NCAA Tournament victory since the Kelsey Plum era in 2017. The extension effectively ends speculation about her departure, which had intensified after her contract buyout dropped and rumors linked her to other high-profile jobs, including Alabama.
Langley's tenure has been defined by a remarkable turnaround. Inheriting a team that struggled to a 25-57 record in the four years prior to her arrival, she has instilled a winning culture. Under her leadership, Washington has posted a winning record in four of her five seasons, culminating in back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, including a narrow overtime loss to TCU in this year's second round that nearly resulted in a Sweet Sixteen berth.
"Over the past five seasons, we have witnessed the continued ascent of Washington women's basketball under the leadership of Coach Langley," said Athletics Director Pat Chun. "She has distinguished herself as both an exceptional coach and an outstanding leader. We are fortunate to have her leading our program."
With a core foundation firmly in place and a proven leader locked in long-term, the Huskies are poised to build on their recent success and challenge the upper echelon of the Pac-12 and the nation for years to come.
