The Washington Huskies are one of 13 reportedly interested in former Youngstown State and USC reserve center Gabe Dynes in the transfer portal.
A native of Independence, Kentucky, the 7-foot-5 ex-Trojan big man made six starts and appeared in 30 total games in 2025-26, averaging a career-low 2.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in 11.9 minutes per game. Before his move from the Horizon League to the Big Ten Conference last season, Dynes led the mid-major conference in consecutive seasons, averaging 2.3 and 3.1 blocks per game in 2023-24 and 2024-25.
Arizona, Baylor, Kentucky, Louisville, and Xavier, along with UW, are all interested in the imposing paint presence as Danny Sprinkle aims to bolster his front-court depth heading into year three in Seattle.
With the transfer exit of sixth-year center Franck Kepnang and only junior Lathan Sommerville signed for the 2026-27 campaign, the Huskies could certainly use a player with Dynes' staggering frame. However, it would likely only be a bench role that Sprinkle—or any coach—should expect with the Kentucky native starting 11 games total at Youngstown State and six at USC.

Combined between his freshman and sophomore seasons, Dynes averaged 5.3 points and 4.9 rebounds for the Penguins under then-coach Jerrod Calhoun and current coach Ethan Faulkner, playing a rotational role on back-to-back 20-plus win teams in the Horizon League.
While his numbers might not be the most impressive, Dynes still put up three double-digit scoring games (16 points vs UC Santa Cruz, 14 points vs Illinois State and 10 points at Maryland) and led the Trojans shooting 78.8 percent (41-of-52) from the floor while appearing in 30 of 32 games, all of which should appeal to Sprinkle having seen five different players in the front-court miss time due to injury last season.
Thus far, UW has only added two transfer commitments since the portal opened on April 8, ex-Davidson guard Parker Friedrichsen and former Gonzaga guard Steele Venters, and at least two more transfers are expected in the front-court to pair with sophomore forward Nikola Dzepina, senior center Mady Traore, and Sommerville.
