After a 13-8 loss to the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday night, the Washington Huskies have now lost four straight games and seven of their last eight after clawing their way back to .500 on the year.

In what has become a familiar sight in most of the recent losses, coach Eddie Smith's team fell behind early and was unable to recover. First baseman Randy Seymour was the catalyst for the Spartans, going 3-for-6 with 5 runs batted in and a pair of runs scored behind a two-run home run in the first inning, and a three-run blast in the second.

Michigan State racked up 15 hits in the contest off Washington's pitching staff, but Casen Taggart tried to keep the Huskies in a game with a three-run homer in the second inning to cut the lead to 6-4. However, by the time designated hitter Khamaree Thomas hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, the Spartans were in full control with a 13-5 lead.

Despite a strong day from left fielder Jackson Hotchkiss, who went 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored, including his 12th home run of the year, the Huskies were unable to claw their way back into the game.

Jackson Thomas took the loss for the Huskies, after he was able to make it through just 2 innings of work, letting up 6 runs on 7 hits with 2 strikeouts along the way as he dropped to 1-4 on the year. Gunnar Nichols and Jaxson Gore didn't fare much better in relief, as the pair surrendered 7 runs on 7 hits over the next 3 innings.

Starter Aidan Donovan earned the win for the Spartans, his third of the year, after giving up 6 runs on 10 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.

The Huskies dropped to 16-22 with the loss and 7-10 in Big Ten play, and they'll look to avoid being swept on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. PT.
