The Washington Huskies couldn't get anything going at the plate in a 4-0 loss to Penn State on Saturday.

In a tough rubber match on Saturday, the Washington Huskies' bats went silent as they fell 4-0 to Penn State in State College. The series finale was a pitcher's duel early, but the Huskies couldn't find the timely hits needed to break through.

Washington managed just four hits all afternoon, with three of those coming against Penn State starter Isaiah Shayter. Despite entering the game with a 10.66 ERA, Shayter found his groove, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing only three singles and two walks while striking out five. It was a frustrating outing for a Huskies lineup that has shown flashes of power this season.

Penn State's offense, on the other hand, came alive behind catcher Avery Smith, who proved to be a constant threat. Smith went 3-for-4, including a two-run home run, while right fielder Jesse Jancoski added a solo homer and scored three times, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Their production was enough to keep Washington's pitching staff on the defensive all day.

The Huskies left eight runners on base and only managed to put multiple runners on in an inning once after the first two frames. Penn State's pitching staff struck out nine Washington hitters, keeping the pressure on. Starting pitcher Hayden Lewis took the loss, dropping to 6-5 on the year, after allowing four runs on 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings, with one walk and a strikeout.

With the loss, Washington falls to 22-29 overall and 11-16 in Big Ten play. The road doesn't get any easier—the Huskies return home to face No. 1 UCLA and projected top MLB draft pick Roch Cholowsky. For a team looking to bounce back, it's a chance to test their mettle against the best.
