A late rally wasn't enough for the Washington Huskies to pull off an upset of the No. 7 UCLA Bruins on Friday night, as coach Heather Tarr's team fell 7-5 in its fourth straight loss.

Washington trailed 4-0 going into the fifth inning, as right fielder and Big Ten Player of the Year candidate Megan Grant led the way for the Bruins, blasting a pair of solo home runs off of starter Morgan Reimer. Third baseman Bri Alejandre added to the lead with a solo shot of her own in the fourth, before freshman second baseman Mila Reddy got the Huskies on the board in the fifth inning with a solo homer, the first of her career.

Then, in the sixth, right fielder Sophi Mazzola stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and cleared them with a three-run double to bring the Huskies within a run, before center fielder Kaycie Burdick knotted the score at 5-5 with a run-scoring double of her own. However, it wasn't enough against the Bruins' high-powered lineup, which scored in every inning except the second.

To cap off a 3-for-4 day with 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored, Alejandre launched her second homer of the evening, a two-run blast in the seventh inning, to give the Bruins the lead for good.

Reimer worked the whole game and took the loss to fall to 22-5 on the year, after letting up 7 runs on 11 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts in the contest. On the other side, Taylor Tinsley earned the win to improve to 24-3 on the year in a complete game effort, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts.

With the loss, the Huskies dropped to 34-13 on the year and 15-4 in Big Ten play. The two teams will return to the field on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. PT for the second installment of their three-game series.
