Warwickshire Bears have pulled off a major coup by signing Pakistan's red-hot off-spinner Usman Tariq for the upcoming T20 Blast season—and they're calling him a "high-impact" game-changer.

The 30-year-old has been turning heads across the globe with his electric performances in the Pakistan Super League and Caribbean Premier League in 2025. He made his international T20 debut against South Africa in November that same year and immediately announced himself with a hat-trick in just his second match, against Zimbabwe.

Since then, Tariq has been a nightmare for batters, taking 18 wickets in nine international appearances at an astonishing economy rate of just 6.66 runs per over. His overall T20 record is equally impressive: 89 wickets in 60 games, including five four-wicket hauls.

What makes this signing even more intriguing is Tariq's unique, slingy, low-armed bowling action. It's been a talking point throughout his career—reported twice by umpires during PSL matches in 2024 and 2025. But for Warwickshire, it's a weapon they're eager to unleash.

"Usman is exactly the type of high-impact player we want to bring into Warwickshire," said Bears performance director James Thomas. "His skillset and tactical awareness make him a genuine threat in modern white-ball cricket, but it's his hunger to compete and continually improve that really stands out."

The Bears revealed they "fought off competition from around the world" to secure Tariq's signature. He'll also represent Birmingham Phoenix in this year's Hundred, giving fans at Edgbaston a double dose of his spin wizardry.

Warwickshire—who have dropped the Birmingham name from their T20 side—kick off their Blast campaign against Gloucestershire in Bristol on Friday, 22 May. Their first home game follows two days later against Somerset. With Tariq in the ranks, expect plenty of excitement—and maybe a few more raised eyebrows at that action.
