The Golden State Warriors are facing a pivotal offseason, and according to recent reports, they may be preparing to make a major roster shakeup. The team is reportedly exploring trade options for six-time All-Star forward Jimmy Butler, signaling a potential shift in direction for the franchise.
As reported by Sam Amico of Hoops Wire, "Sources tell Hoops Wire the Warriors could gauge Butler’s trade market this offseason as they evaluate the roster’s direction." While the futures of head coach Steve Kerr and fellow All-Stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green appear secure, Butler's situation is far less certain.
The 36-year-old suffered a torn ACL in January and is expected to miss nine to 12 months, casting a shadow over his immediate future. Under contract through the 2026-27 season following his extension from the Miami trade, Butler's age, injury, and hefty salary—$54.1 million next season and $56.8 million the year after—make him a difficult asset to move.
Butler has played just 68 games for the Warriors since arriving in February 2025, and as he heads into his 16th NBA season, Golden State finds itself at a crossroads. The team failed to make the playoffs this past season, falling to the Phoenix Suns in the play-in tournament, and the Western Conference is only getting younger and deeper.
With their three best players all over 35, the Warriors have one of the oldest rosters in the league, averaging between 27.5 and 29.8 years old. Packaging Butler in a trade could help them get younger and more competitive, but the value they receive in return will be the real test. As the offseason heats up, all eyes will be on Golden State's next move.
