While it may sound preposterous, the Golden State Warriors’ disastrous season could be viewed as a positive for the franchise.

The Warriors have been linked to groundbreaking trades recently, but the organization hasn’t put its best foot forward on the trade market. Golden State settled for Kristaps Porzingis before the Feb. 5 deadline.

However, with the Dubs’ season ending in late April, there’s a good chance they’ll take a more desperate approach during the offseason and do whatever it takes to ensure they don’t waste the rest of Stephen Curry’s remarkable career.

CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn is under the impression that trading for a New York Knicks star forward in a deal involving Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo could move the needle for the organization this summer.

“Even if the Warriors don't get (Giannis) Antetokounmpo themselves, they could sneak into the trade Milwaukee ultimately makes,” Quinn wrote Saturday. “Say Antetokounmpo makes it clear that he only wants to play for the New York Knicks.”

“The Bucks likely wouldn't want Karl-Anthony Towns on a multi-year deal, but could the Warriors swoop in and grab him for a pittance? He and Porzingis are such great shooters that the Warriors could stomach (Draymond) Green's issues on that front, and Green would be the most versatile defender Towns ever played with.”

If the Warriors are seriously interested in acquiring Towns in the offseason, they should hope the Knicks don’t make a championship run in the playoffs. Hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy in June and swapping Towns with Antetokounmpo shortly after isn’t a logical move in any way, shape, or form.

A shortened postseason could give New York an incentive to put itself in the best position to win the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes by agreeing to part ways with Towns. As Quinn noted, the Warriors could find themselves in the middle of a three-team Antetokounmpo-centered deal that lands them Towns.

It’s not the most likely offseason trade scenario, but if the Knicks come up short and the Warriors play their cards right, it could come to fruition.
