The Golden State Warriors are reportedly eyeing a blockbuster move this offseason, and it could land them one of the NBA's most versatile young big men. According to a recent trade proposal from Blue Man Hoop's Peter O'Keefe, the Warriors should pursue Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star center Evan Mobley—a player whose $269 million contract reflects his immense potential.
As the Warriors look to bolster their frontcourt, they face a classic choice: target a traditional, back-to-the-basket bruiser or go for a modern big who can stretch the floor. O'Keefe argues that Mobley represents the latter—a dream fit for Golden State's system. "Mobley has been a franchise cornerstone for the Cavaliers ever since he was drafted third overall at the 2021 NBA Draft," O'Keefe wrote, "but things could change, and he could be a casualty if the Cavaliers fail to reach the Eastern Conference Finals."
The timing couldn't be more intriguing. Mobley's playoff performance has raised eyebrows—his passive start in Cleveland's second-round series against the Detroit Pistons has hurt a team desperate for offensive firepower. That inconsistency, however, doesn't erase his ceiling. When assertive, Mobley is a fluid roller in pick-and-roll situations, a capable ball-handler who can blow past defenders, a decisive low-post scorer, and an elite rim protector. During the regular season, he averaged 18.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game.
Of course, landing Mobley won't be easy. The Cavaliers would only part with their young star for a legitimate upgrade, and the Warriors aren't in a position to offer that directly. But as O'Keefe suggests, if there's even a whisper of Mobley's availability, Golden State should explore a third-team deal to make it happen. For a team looking to maximize its championship window, adding a two-way talent like Mobley could be the move that reshapes the Western Conference.
