Football Association of Wales bosses are "very confident" Craig Bellamy will remain head coach of the national team despite interest from Burnley.

Wales' football chiefs are brimming with confidence that head coach Craig Bellamy will turn down Burnley's advances and remain at the helm of the national team. The 46-year-old has emerged as a top candidate for the vacant managerial post at Turf Moor, following Scott Parker's departure by mutual consent after the Clarets' relegation from the Premier League.

Burnley is familiar territory for Bellamy, who previously served as assistant to his former Manchester City teammate Vincent Kompany during the Belgian's tenure at the club. While the Championship side has yet to make an official approach to the Football Association of Wales, reports suggest they've informally sounded out Bellamy about the possibility of taking over.

However, after extensive discussions with the ex-Wales captain, senior FAW sources tell BBC Sport Wales they are "very confident" he will honor his contract through 2028. A major factor in Bellamy's likely decision is his burning ambition to lead his country at Euro 2028—a tournament Wales will co-host alongside England, Scotland, and the Republic of Ireland.

Bellamy has relished his first senior managerial role since signing a four-year deal in July 2024. He kicked off his tenure with an impressive nine-game unbeaten run, guiding Wales to the top tier of the Nations League while instilling a bold, attacking style of play that earned widespread praise. However, their 2026 World Cup dream was dashed by two defeats to Belgium in qualifying, followed by a heartbreaking play-off semi-final loss at home to Bosnia-Herzegovina in March.

Despite his commitment to the national team, the former Liverpool and Manchester City forward has never hidden his desire to manage at the highest level of club football. The FAW is aware of interest from other clubs beyond Burnley but has some security in the form of a £700,000 release clause that would need to be triggered to buy him out of his contract.

As the speculation swirls, other names are also being linked to the Burnley job, including Bellamy's former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard and Cardiff City boss Brian Barry-Murphy. For now, though, Wales fans can breathe easy—their manager appears set to stay and build toward that home Euro 2028 campaign.
