Wales international Nel Metcalfe has committed her future to Gloucester-Hartpury, signing a new contract that will keep her with the Premiership Women's Rugby champions beyond this season.

The 21-year-old full-back and winger joined the league leaders in 2024 after starting her career with Gwalia Lightning in the Celtic Challenge. Despite being sidelined from this year's Six Nations due to a knee injury, Metcalfe has already made her mark at club level—scoring six tries in just seven appearances this campaign, including a sensational hat-trick against Loughborough Lightning in February.

Metcalfe burst onto the international scene early, earning her first Wales cap at just 18 during the inaugural WXV Tournament. She has since accumulated 16 caps for her country, showcasing her versatility across the back three.

"I've really enjoyed my time here so far and feel like I'm growing a lot as a player in this environment," Metcalfe said. "Right now, I'm focusing fully on my rehab and doing everything I can to get back to full fitness. The standards here are really high, and that's exactly what I need at this stage of my career."

Gloucester-Hartpury have been dominant this season, topping the PWR table with a perfect 14-0 record. With their play-off spot already secured, they return to action on 29 May against Trailfinders Women as they chase a fourth consecutive title.

Metcalfe joins a growing list of key players extending their stays at the club, including England internationals Maud Muir, Niamh O'Dowd, Emma Sing, and Alex Matthews—all of whom have signed new deals in recent weeks.

Head of rugby Dan Murphy praised Metcalfe's impact, calling her a "genuine try-scoring threat" from anywhere in the back three. "She's becoming an increasingly dangerous player at this level, and what's most exciting is that there's still plenty of growth ahead of her," he added.
