Midfielder Sophie Ingle bids to continue her impressive return season during Wales' World Cup qualifying double header against Albania.

Sophie Ingle is back, and she's playing some of the best football of her career. After a grueling year-long recovery from an ACL injury that wiped out her entire 2024-25 season, the Welsh midfield general is once again a commanding presence on the pitch for both club and country.

Her journey back has been a testament to resilience. Ingle made her emotional return as a substitute in Wales' Euro 2025 qualifier against France last July, marking the first step in a remarkable comeback. Since then, she has been a near-ever-present force for Bristol City in the Women's Super League, racking up 25 appearances this season and rebuilding her match fitness with every game.

"Throughout my whole rehab, the main aim was getting back for the Euros," Ingle recently shared. That goal achieved, her focus shifted seamlessly to contributing week-in, week-out for her club. The result? A player who feels she has returned to her peak. "Yeah, probably," she said when asked if she was back to her best. "I feel good, I feel fit."

Her return has been a catalyst for Wales' resurgence. After a difficult 2025, the Red Dragons are now unbeaten in their last four matches, with Ingle at the heart of the turnaround. Remarkably, the defensive midfielder has found a scoring touch, netting three goals in her last four international appearances—a rare and welcome boost for her side. "Since coming back from my knee injury, it's something I looked at," Ingle noted, highlighting her increased threat in the box.

Now, the focus sharpens on a major objective: qualifying for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. Wales currently sit atop their qualifying group, fresh off a dominant 6-1 win over Montenegro. The upcoming double-header against Albania presents a crucial opportunity to solidify that position. For Ingle, these fixtures carry extra significance; featuring in both games would see her earn a monumental 150th cap for Wales, a fitting milestone for a player whose leadership and quality have never been more vital to her nation's ambitions.
