In the high-stakes world of UFC heavyweights, emotions run as hot as the action inside the Octagon. This week, Waldo Cortes-Acosta opened up about a tense confrontation with rising star Josh Hokit, sparked by a callout that crossed a line earlier this year.

It all started at UFC 324 in January, when Hokit—fresh off a TKO win over Denzel Freeman—grabbed the mic and called out Cortes-Acosta, labeling him a "deadbeat father." For Cortes-Acosta, a proud father of nine, those words hit below the belt. The Dominican fighter didn't let it slide, seeking out Hokit at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas for a face-to-face showdown.

"Not only did he speak about me, but he spoke about my family, my kids, and a bunch more stuff came out of his mouth," Cortes-Acosta told reporters at UFC 328 media day. "I don't know what character he was on to speak that way. I ran into him at the Apex, and I confronted him. I got on the ring, gave him a good look, and told him, 'You're not worth anything. You better prepare yourself well because one day you and I are going to fight.'"

According to Cortes-Acosta, Hokit later approached him in an elevator, apologizing and claiming the callout was just a ploy to build hype. "He said, 'I'm sorry. Please forgive me. That was only to make headlines so you and I can make money in a fight down the line,'" Cortes-Acosta recalled. "I told him, 'You're a f*cking idiot. You're a p*ssy.'" The damage was done, and there was no patching things up.

Now, all eyes are on UFC 328, taking place Saturday at Prudential Center in Newark. Cortes-Acosta (17-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) is set to face former Bellator champion and UFC veteran Alexander Volkov (39-11 MMA, 13-5 UFC) on the main card. A win here could be a major stepping stone, potentially setting up a shot at UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall. "I believe a win over Volkov this Saturday, while also keeping in mind that Ciryl Gane is fighting," Cortes-Acosta said, hinting at the bigger picture.

For fans gearing up for fight night, this clash is more than just a bout—it's a statement. Whether you're suiting up for your own training or cheering from the stands, gear up with apparel that matches the intensity of the Octagon. Because in this sport, every move counts.
