The Treasure Coast has produced some of baseball's most memorable stars—from World Series champions to Gold Glove winners and even Florida state champions. Now, it's your turn to weigh in on who stands above the rest.

As part of USA Today Network's America 250 series, we're celebrating the 250 greatest American sports figures of all time in honor of the United States' 250th anniversary. But before we look at the national stage, we're diving deep into the local legends who built the foundation of our sports culture. These are the high school standouts, the trailblazers, and the trendsetters whose impact goes far beyond the box score.

This week, we're turning the spotlight on the stars of baseball—and narrowing this list was no easy feat. The Treasure Coast has been home to so many impactful figures that every name feels worthy of the honor. Listed in alphabetical order, these players all shined at the high school level before achieving even greater things in college and the pros.

Take Rick Ankiel, for example. His story is one of the most fascinating in modern baseball history, and it all started right here at Port St. Lucie High School. As a senior, he was simply unstoppable on the mound, posting an 11-1 record with a microscopic 0.47 ERA. That performance earned him USA Today High School Player of the Year honors and caught the attention of the St. Louis Cardinals, who selected him in the second round of the 1997 MLB Draft. By age 20, he was already in the big leagues. But baseball had a twist in store: Ankiel suddenly lost his ability to throw strikes during the 2000 season, a stunning setback that sent him to the minors for years. Undeterred, he reinvented himself as an outfielder, returning to the Cardinals in 2007 and putting together six solid seasons as a powerful hitter. It remains one of the game's great comeback stories.

Then there's Michael Brantley, a Fort Pierce Central graduate who went on to become a five-time All-Star. His smooth swing and steady glove made him a fan favorite wherever he played, and his journey from local high school star to major league standout is a testament to the talent that comes from this region.

So, who do you think deserves the title of Treasure Coast's all-time best baseball figure? Cast your vote and help us celebrate the players who made this community proud.
