It's time to cast your vote for the Shreveport Times High School Athlete of the Week! This week's ballot is packed with standout student-athletes from 15 northwest Louisiana schools, including Loyola, Benton, North DeSoto, Byrd, Airline, Northwood, Huntington, Evangel, and Magnet. But here's the twist—this week is all about non-football sports. That means we're celebrating excellence on the court, the mat, the field, and beyond.
The competition is fierce, and your vote matters. Head over to shreveporttimes.com, click on "sports," and pick your favorite athlete. Voting runs through Friday night, and the winner will be announced on Sunday. It's a great way to show school spirit and support these hardworking athletes.
What's at stake? The weekly winner scores a backpack, a boxed lunch combo, and some extra swag, all courtesy of Raising Cane's and Cosse and Silmon Orthodontics. Plus, they'll be featured in a short story highlighting their accomplishments, brought to you by The Times. It's a win-win for these dedicated students.
This follows our earlier preseason fan's choice awards, which honored top talent in football, volleyball, and cheerleading. Caddo Magnet's Violet Collier took home Preseason Volleyball Player of the Year, Plain Dealing's Jeremy Fisher claimed Preseason Football Player of the Year, and Captain Shreve's Zaria Hall was named Cheerleader of the Year. Now, it's time to shine a spotlight on the rest of the athletic community.
This week's ballot features an impressive lineup: Providence's Lauren Hillman and Micah Gordon, Captain Shreve's Ava Bogan and Riley Cram, North DeSoto's Kade Tinsley, Loyola's Nick Kampert, Evangel's Ashton Dawson, Benton's Tenley Hesson, Providence Academy's Alex Thaxton, Gabi Hamic, and John Hollis, Benton wrestler Audrina Wade, Captain Shreve's Ryleigh Cram, Many's Jonas Hendrickson, and Haughton soccer standout B. Each of these athletes has shown incredible dedication and skill in their respective sports, from volleyball to wrestling to soccer.
So, rally your friends, family, and classmates, and make your voice heard. Every vote counts, and this is your chance to celebrate the next generation of sports stars. Let's go, northwest Louisiana!
