It’s time for one last monthly honor before we crown the Player of the Season for 2025/26. Our April/May award covers six tough fixtures—five in April and the season finale in May—and we need your vote to decide who deserves the nod.
Let’s be honest: this wasn’t Reading’s finest hour. The Royals failed to win any of these six matches, starting with a late 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town on Good Friday. Things only went downhill from there, as three straight losses to Lincoln City, Doncaster Rovers, and Cardiff City effectively ended any playoff hopes. A spirited 1-1 comeback draw at already-relegated Rotherham United offered a brief glimmer, but the season ended on a sour note. Reading were booed off the pitch after a lifeless 1-0 loss to Blackpool, failing to muster a single shot on target.
Despite the struggles, a few players stood out. Here’s your shortlist:
Kelvin Kyerewaa – Average rating: 5.5 / Man of the match: 2nd (vs Cardiff City), 1st (vs Rotherham United)
The forward was one of the few bright spots, scoring twice in open play. His highlight? A well-taken equalizer at Rotherham, latching onto Paddy Lane’s cross just after halftime.
Tom O’Connor – Average rating: 5.33 / Man of the match: 3rd (vs Huddersfield Town), Joint 2nd (vs Blackpool)
O’Connor was a late addition to the shortlist, but as one fan noted, “He’s been OK when the team have been awful.” Sometimes consistency in chaos deserves recognition.
João Pereira – Average rating: 6.17 / Man of the match: 2nd (vs Huddersfield Town), 1st (vs Doncaster Rovers), Joint 2nd (vs Rotherham United), 1st (vs Blackpool)
The clear frontrunner. Pereira was the only player to average above 6/10 during this stretch, earning multiple Man of the Match honors. Without his steady performances, this rough patch could have been even worse.
Lewis Wing – Average rating: 5.5 / Man of the match: 1st (vs Huddersfield Town), 2nd (vs Lincoln City)
Like Kyerewaa, Wing found the net twice in the final weeks, showing his knack for popping up in the right place at the right time.
