It's time to celebrate the best of Delaware high school sports! Week 7 of the spring season brought incredible performances, and we need your help to pick the standout athlete. Presented by Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists, the Delaware Online High School Sports Athlete of the Week vote is now open.

Voting is free and open to the public with unlimited ballots from Monday through Thursday. The winner will be announced on Friday, May 15. Want to nominate a future star? Send your suggestions—including the athlete or team name and a brief summary of their weekly achievements—to high school sports reporter Brandon Holveck at bholveck@delawareonline.com.

Here are this week's nominees, each delivering a show-stopping performance:

Elizabeth Layton, Sussex Academy girls lacrosse: A scoring machine, Layton netted a combined eight goals and added three assists in victories over Smyrna and Newark Charter.

Samantha Weinert, Ursuline track and field: Speed defined her week as Weinert claimed the girls 100 and 200 meter titles at the New Castle County championships.

Jordan Welch, Sussex Tech track and field: Dominating the jumps, Welch won the triple jump, long jump, and high jump at the Henlopen Conference championships. His 50-3 triple jump ranks second on the state's all-time performance list—a mark that puts him in elite company.

Grady Wheeler, Archmere baseball: On the mound, Wheeler was untouchable, pitching 12 2/3 innings over two starts without allowing a single run while striking out 10. The Auks rolled to wins over Saint Mark's (5-1) and Wilmington Friends (9-2).

Benjamin Williams, Conrad boys lacrosse: Clutch doesn't begin to describe it. Williams scored seven goals, including the game-winner with just 45 seconds left, in a thrilling 9-8 win over Hodgson. He also tallied three goals in a 7-5 victory over Concord.

Cast your vote now and help crown the Week 7 champion. Whether you're a fan, a player, or just love great sports stories, your voice matters!
