It's time to cast your vote for the South Shore High School Male Athlete of the Week, and this week's lineup is stacked with standout performances from baseball, lacrosse, and track & field. These young athletes have been putting in the work, and we're here to celebrate their achievements.
Milton High's Ben Doak has already taken the crown with over 30,600 votes, and it's easy to see why. In two baseball wins against Newton North (10-3) and Bridgewater-Raynham (11-4), Doak went a combined 7-for-9 at the plate, smashing a double, scoring four runs, and driving in three RBIs. That's the kind of consistency that wins games—and votes.
But Doak wasn't the only star making noise. In a 15-5 win over Malden Catholic, one player delivered three hits, then stepped up in a clutch 9-5 victory over Catholic Memorial. With the game tied at 5-5, he broke the deadlock with an RBI double and scored an insurance run during a four-run sixth inning. Talk about rising to the moment.
Meanwhile, Bonner was a force in a 10-3 win over Marshfield, going 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, two RBIs, and two stolen bases. He followed that up with a 2-for-3 performance in a 6-3 win over Hanover, scoring two runs and adding another RBI. Speed and power—a deadly combo.
Brown delivered one of the week's most dramatic moments: a game-tying three-run triple in the bottom of the 10th inning, followed by scoring the walk-off run on an errant throw in an 8-7 victory over Silver Lake. Earlier, he shined in a 16-9 win over Hingham (hit, three walks, four runs, RBI) and a 12-6 win over Scituate (two runs, RBI, stolen base).
Ceglie provided his own heroics with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to beat North Quincy, 8-7. And Connor reached a major milestone, scoring his 100th career goal in a 15-5 lacrosse loss to Marshfield—a testament to his dedication.
On the mound, Davidson was nearly untouchable, throwing a complete-game two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and three walks in an 8-1 win over Whitman-Hanson. The next day, he slugged two home runs and drove in five runs in a 12-0 mercy-rule victory over Quincy. Kenney also shined, tossing eight shutout innings in a 1-0 win over Whitman-Hanson, allowing just three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts, improving to 4-1 with a 0.43 ERA and 42 strikeouts.
In track & field, Louis dominated a tri-meet sweep of Bishop Fenwick and Arlington Catholic, winning the 100 meters (11.62 seconds) and high jump (5 feet 8 inches), and running on the winning 4x100m relay that set a school record of 44.89 seconds. He was joined by Tyler Ames, Carson Fava, and Patrick Cadogan.
Finally, O'Driscoll stepped up as an emergency goalie in the second half and overtime of a lacrosse game, allowing just one goal and making seven saves in a 6-5 win. Sometimes, the biggest plays come from the most unexpected places.
These athletes are proving that hard work, determination, and a little flair go a long way. Who will take the crown next week? Stay tuned—and don't forget to vote!
