This week's nominees for the Softball Player of the Week (May 4-10) are packed with jaw-dropping performances, including home run heroes and pitchers who dominated with no-hitters. Voting closes at 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, so don't miss your chance to make your voice heard.
Last week's winner, Addy Thomas from Dartmouth, set the bar high with a staggering 87% of the vote—over 14,000 ballots cast in her favor. She earned two wins on the mound against Bridgewater-Raynham and Barnstable, allowing just five earned runs on 12 hits while striking out 10. At the plate, she went 1-for-5 with four RBIs against Barnstable. Previous winners include GNB Voc-Tech's Leah Perez and Khloe Pereira, New Bedford's Brylee DeDeus, and Old Colony's Abby Norton, while Madison Canton of Old Colony took home the Preseason Player of the Year honor with over 10,000 votes.
This week's nominees showcase the depth of talent in high school softball. Here's a look at the standout performances:
Home Run Heroes: Bogdan crushed her first career home run against Old Rochester, going 4-for-7 with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI across games with New Bedford and Fairhaven. Kelly delivered a power display, going 6-for-12 with two home runs, six RBIs, and five runs scored in three games. Freshman Megna made her mark with a 2-for-2 performance, including a walk and her first home run, against Dartmouth.
Hitting Machines: Burnap was unstoppable, going 6-for-8 with three doubles, four runs, and five RBIs against Fairhaven and Old Rochester. Suneson combined for 3-for-4 with two walks, two RBIs, and four runs scored against New Bedford and Old Rochester. Silva also contributed across two games against Bishop Stang and Hingham.
Pitching Dominance: Taylor was the star of the week, throwing a no-hitter against New Bedford with nine strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. She followed that up with wins over Old Rochester (one hit, one walk, 11 strikeouts) and Fairhaven (five hits, two walks, eight strikeouts). Chasse pitched five innings of one-hit ball with 10 strikeouts and no walks in a win over Barnstable. Pomfret earned two wins on the mound against Bishop Stang and Hingham, allowing just three runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts.
