It's that time of the week again, softball fans—time to cast your vote for the top player on the diamond! For the week of April 27 to May 3, we've got a lineup of sluggers and aces who delivered standout performances, and the decision is yours.
Last week's winner was GNB Voc-Tech's Khloe Pereira, who crushed it with over 11,000 votes (53%). In two games against Old Rochester and Fairhaven, she went 5-for-7 with three home runs and three RBIs. Previous winners include GNB Voc-Tech's Leah Perez, New Bedford's Brylee DeDeus, and Old Colony's Abby Norton. And don't forget, the Preseason Softball Player of the Year honor went to Old Colony's Madison Canton, who racked up more than 10,000 votes.
Now, let's dive into this week's nominees, who brought the heat both at the plate and in the circle. Whether it's clutch hitting or dominant pitching, these athletes made their mark.
In three games, Suneson went 4-for-11 with two home runs, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Taylor was a force on the mound, allowing seven earned runs on 16 hits while striking out 30 over three games. Brousseau shined in a loss to Cardinal Spellman, going 3-for-3 with an RBI triple and a run scored. Morales also had a solid showing in that same game, going 3-for-4.
Rapoza delivered a walkoff win against Bridgewater-Raynham, driving in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. She also notched two hits against Barnstable. Thomas earned two wins on the mound for Dartmouth, allowing five earned runs on 12 hits with 10 strikeouts, and went 1-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs against Barnstable.
Cook went 6-for-10 with five RBIs in three games. Flynn was on fire in wins over Old Rochester and Bourne, going 6-for-8 with six RBIs. Furtado posted an 8-for-14 line with five RBIs over three games. Pierce was the winning pitcher in games against Old Rochester, Bourne, and West Bridgewater, and also went 9-for-14 at the plate with a grand slam and 13 RBIs. Araujo smashed home runs against both Seekonk and Apponequet, going 2-for-2 with a homer and two runs scored in the first game.
