It's time to crown the best high school team in the Green Bay area for April, and we need your help! The Piggly Wiggly Press-Gazette Team of the Month voting is now open, and four outstanding squads are in the running. Cast your vote before the deadline at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20.
Last month's winner, the Bay Area Ice Bears girls hockey team, dominated the March poll with an impressive 18,454 votes, leaving the Seymour boys basketball team in second place with 7,333 votes. Now, it's April's turn to shine, and the competition is fierce.
Let's meet the nominees:
Bay Port Pirates (Baseball)
The Pirates stormed through April with a stellar 12-2 record, with only one loss coming against an in-state opponent. Averaging 7.6 runs per game, Bay Port went undefeated against Fox River Classic Conference foes, going 9-0. The highlight? A doubleheader sweep of three-time defending league champion De Pere, proving this team is built for the long haul.
Green Bay Notre Dame Tritons (Girls Soccer)
The Tritons established themselves as one of Wisconsin's top Division 3 teams with an 8-1-1 April record. Their only defeat came at the hands of The Prairie School, the state's top-ranked D4 squad. Notre Dame's defense was nearly impenetrable, holding opponents to one goal or fewer in nine matches—including six clean sheets. That's the kind of discipline that wins championships.
Green Bay Preble Hornets (Baseball)
The Hornets were simply unstoppable, going a perfect 13-0 in April and extending their regular-season winning streak to 2024. With 10 of those wins coming against FRCC opponents, Preble is in prime position to claim its second straight conference title and fifth in six years. The month ended with an emphatic 8-2 victory at Ashwaubenon, sending a clear message to the rest of the league.
Kewaunee Storm (Softball)
After making history with their first WIAA state tournament appearance and reaching the D3 championship game last season, the Storm have picked up right where they left off. Kewaunee went 11-0 in April, outscoring opponents by a jaw-dropping 110-6 margin. They recorded eight shutouts and scored 10 or more runs in six games—pure dominance from start to finish.
Previous winners this season include the Bay Area Ice Bears hockey team (December, 27,059 votes) and the Denmark boys wrestling team (February, 2,451 votes). Who will join them? The choice is yours.
Don't miss your chance to support your favorite team. Vote now and help decide which squad takes home the April title!
