It's time to cast your vote for the Piggly Wiggly Milwaukee Journal Sentinel high school athlete of the week for performances from May 4-9. Last week's winner was Rita Sippy of Oak Creek softball, but now a new slate of standout athletes is up for the honor.
This week's nominees showcase incredible talent across track and field, golf, and wheelchair sports. Voting runs until 3 p.m. on May 16, and you don't need a subscription to participate—just one vote per hour per device. Here's a closer look at the nominees:
Donavin Bond (Nicolet) made history on the track, setting a school record in the triple jump at 47 feet, 5.5 inches during the Dan Benson Invitational on May 1. He followed it up with a meet-best jump of 46-2 at the Myrhum Invitational on May 9, helping the Knights secure fourth place in the boys team standings.
Alex McMillin (Hale) ended a 25-year drought for his school's golf program by winning the Kaz Invite at New Berlin Hills on May 9. The Millikin University commit shot a stellar 72 to take medalist honors, leading Hale to a 13th-place team finish overall.
Laela Presendofer (Mukwonago) dominated the Myrhum Invitational on May 9, winning three titles to propel her team to a runner-up finish. The Minnesota State commit blazed to a top statewide time of 11.95 seconds in the 100-meter dash, added a 200-meter title at 24.17 seconds, and anchored the 4x200-meter relay team to victory in 1:38.98.
Lucy Rate (Slinger), a freshman, was unstoppable in the girls wheelchair division at the Myrhum Invitational, capturing four titles. She won the 100 meters in 22.25 seconds, the 400 in 1:23.37, the 1,600 in 5:54.64, and the shot put with a throw of 13 feet, 3.5 inches.
Max Zastrow (LCL) closed out the week strong on the golf course, earning medalist honors at the MACC Fund Invitational with a 3-under-par 68 to help the Lightning finish third as a team. He also won the second Midwest Classic Conference mini meet of the season with an even-par 35, leading LCL to first place in the team standings.
