It's time to cast your vote for the Norwich Bulletin Athlete of the Week, honoring standout performances from April 27 through May 2. The poll closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, so don't miss your chance to support your favorite local athletes.
This week's spotlight shines brightly on the Killingly softball team, which delivered an unforgettable performance in the annual Morgan Ross Memorial Game. In a thrilling 14-13 walk-off victory over Woodstock Academy at the Killingly Little League Complex in Danielson, the Trailblazers showed the heart and hustle that define championship-caliber teams.
Senior Jayden Durand etched her name into school history during the game, becoming Killingly's all-time career hits leader with a walk-off double. Head coach Lance Leduc was there to congratulate her, marking a milestone moment that ties Durand with former standout and current assistant coach Ashley Veillette for the most career hits in school history. The celebration was a testament to years of dedication and hard work.
But Durand wasn't alone in the spotlight. Loretta Lannon launched a two-run homer that ignited the crowd, while Sophia Moran received the Morgan Ross Most Valuable Teammate Award from Morgan's mom, Jessica Norris. Eve McCullough also earned the Morgan Ross Little League Most Valuable Teammate award, highlighting the depth of talent and teamwork on this squad.
Other nominees this week include Declyn Benjamin, Danielle Veillette, Evah Thoutte, and Kairah Guertin, each of whom delivered standout performances across their respective sports. Whether you're a fan of softball, baseball, or track and field, there's something for everyone in this week's lineup.
